If you thought Goa was all about cheap beer, sultry babes & golden beaches, think again. Goa is just as much about the food as it is about the cheap booze. And food that goes way beyond the Brittos and Titos of the world.
Now
if you’re one of those few who’ve done Goa to death and still can’t get enough
of it in the same breath, read on. This piece here is about to change the way
you look at food in Goa.
The burger factory: If you’re an Instagram aficionado and have often noticed pictures from Goa with a windmill in the background, know the place is ‘the burger factory’. All fairy-like (what with all the fairylights and wooden benches), the place does only burgers and fresh juices/beverages. One burger from this joint is all you need to experience ‘food-coma’.
Peep Kitchen: Probably the only busy stretch in the locality, Peep Kitchen does some amazing food. Prawn curry coupled with their in-house breads (they’ve got four – pao, poie, undo, sannas) and the fish tawa fry – you’ve got a meal that will have you raging. The cute bartender here deserves a special mention.
Gunpowder: A heritage Portuguese home that’s been converted into a beautiful restaurant – Gunpowder serves fare from the southern states of India. Such a rage this one, that people call in to reserve a table, days and sometimes even weeks in advance. While nothing on the menu here will disappoint you, we strongly recommend you try the paalakura pappu & the kerela style pomfret. The ambience here is like ’cherry to the cake’.
Marbela beach Restaurant: This one is not your typical restaurant. Grab your margarita and seat yourself on a palliasse while you experience a silent sundowner. Purple and blue skies coupled with pizza and beer – quite the lethal combination.
Calamari: And while Calamari is only another shack that serves some finger-licking seafood, no ‘food-in-Goa’ listicle would ever be complete without the mention of one. Give the menu a miss and just opt for the pesto pasta instead. We promise you won’t regret.
